What is the hair growth cycle?
Hair also has its own life cycle, which is divided into three main phases:
- Growth Phase (Anagen Phase)
- Normally, the hair on the scalp is in the Anagen Phase, which lasts approximately 85–90% of the time and typically ranges from 2 to 7 years (depending on various factors such as genetics, personal health, and so on).
- Catagen Phase (Regression Phase)
- This is the phase when hair stops growing. The hair root separates from the blood vessels that nourish it. Normally, only 1-2% of hair on the scalp is in the Catagen Phase, and this phase lasts only 2-3 weeks.
- The Telogen Phase
- During this stage, hair will begin to fall out as it prepares for new hair to grow in its place. This process typically takes 3 to 4 months, with approximately 10 to 15 strands of hair in this phase at any given time.
In summary, human hair typically remains in the growth phase for approximately 85% of its lifespan, while the remaining 15% is in the shedding phase or preparing to shed. This shedding is a normal part of the hair growth cycle, with individuals losing around 50 to 100 strands of hair daily. For individuals experiencing hair loss or thinning, there is an abnormal ratio between hair in the Anagen (growth) phase and Telogen (resting) phase. Specifically, there are more hairs in the Telogen phase, exceeding 15%, and they remain in this phase for longer than 4 months. This results in continuous hair loss and a thinning scalp, as the hair that falls out is not being replaced by new growth in a timely manner. There are numerous causes of abnormal ratios between the Anagen and Telogen phases, such as hormonal imbalances, genetics, stress, nutritional deficiencies, and abnormal cellular metabolism, among others.
How does AnaGain™ help with hair loss?
AnaGain™ has two main functions that accelerate the return of hair to the anagen phase and reduce the duration of the telogen phase.
- Increase FGF7 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 7)
- o AnaGain™ helps enhance the function of FGF7, a key protein that stimulates keratinocyte cells (Matrix Keratinocytes) in the hair matrix area, promoting faster cell division. This allows hair in the Telogen phase to regrow more quickly and return to the Anagen phase.
- Add Noggin
- AnaGain™ helps increase Noggin, another important protein for hair growth. Noggin inhibits BMPs (Bone Morphogenetic Proteins), which are proteins that keep hair in the Telogen phase. When BMP proteins are inhibited by Noggin, hair can exit the Telogen phase more quickly and enter the Anagen phase.
Clinical Test Results of AnaGain™
From clinical tests conducted on 10 volunteers who applied AnaGain™ to their scalp twice daily for 14 consecutive days, it was found that hair roots increased key proteins that help reduce hair loss and stimulate new hair growth, as follows:
- FGF7 protein increased by 56%
- Noggin protein increased by 85%
